Garment Inspection Performance Standard

Garment Inspection Performance Standard

As a garment inspection specialist with more than 12 years experience, DQC is expert in garment quality assurance and has a set of guideline for garment inspection performance standards.
 The performance standard includes:

•  Fabrics.
•  Trims and Accessories.
•  Labeling.
•  Garment Construction for Woven Shirts, Tops, and Blouses.
•  Garment Construction for Knitted Shirts, Tops, and Blouses.
•  Garment Construction for Woven Pants, Slacks, and Shorts.
•  Garment Construction for Knitted Pants, Slacks, and Shorts.
•  Garment Construction for Woven Dresses, Jumpers, Rompers, and Skirts.
•  Garment Construction for Knitted Dresses, Jumpers, Rompers, and Skirts.
•  Garment Construction for Underwear: Panties, Briefs, and Boxer shorts.
•  Garment Construction for Underwear: Brassieres, and Foundation garments.
•  Garment Construction for Sweaters.
•  Garment Construction for Sleepwear.
•  Garment Construction for Activewear.
•  Garment Construction for Outwear.
•  Garment Construction for Swimwear.

For example, the garment construction for woven shirts, tops, and blouses should meet the following standard:

•  Pockets – Shall be uniform in size and placed evenly or aligned.
•  Seams – Finished and back tacked at ends. No untrimmed threads. Free from puckering. Must use with correct tension.
•  Stitching – Thread must be colorfast. No broken top stitches. No open seams.
•  Darts – Uniform in length and shape. No puckering or bubbles.
•  Stress Points –Must be bartacked or reinforced as necessary.
•  Interfacing – Must have compatible shrinkage to shell fabric. Must lie flat.
•  Buttons – Must be securely fastened and colorfast, button holes must be compatible and completely stitched around.
•  Snaps, Rivets, And Trims – No corroding. Securely fastened and reinforced.
•  Elastic And Ribbing – Must extend to fullest width of fabric without breaking stitches. Tunneled elastic must be stitched down to prevent twisting and rollover. No exposed elastic.
•  Needle Cutting – Correct needle size and type for fabric. No needle cuts.
•  Zippers – Must be correct duty zipper for garment. No bulging or wavering on tape. Ends of tape must be securely fastened.

DQC also knows that, each style/construction for different sales markets should have different Minimum Attributes Standards. For example, Knit Tops, Dresses, or Outerwear for super market should meet the following attributes standard, unless others specified:

•  Stitches per inch – joining seams 10, +2/-1
•  Stitches per inch – topstitching 10
•  Seams – clean finished; no raw, open, twisted seams
•  3 Thread Overlock (504) all joining seams unless specified otherwise
•  Reinforce shoulder seam with preshrunk twill tape or Quick-Stretch elastic tape
•  Backtack stitching at least 5-6 stitches
•  Bartack or reinforce stitch - all stress points as specified and applicable
•  Tops Hem – circular construction
•  Dress Hem – circular construction
•  Neck/Cuff – if set flat, seam must be tacked or topstitched appropriately
•  Vents/Plackets clean finished as specified

Different criteria should be used for different styles or construction, such as Knitted shirts/tops/blouses, Sweaters, Woven slacks/pants/shorts, Knitted slacks/pants/shorts, Woven dresses/jumpers/rompers/skirts, Knitted dresses/jumpers/rompers/skirts, Activewear, Sleepwear, Underwear, Outwear, Swimwear.
